Two men suspected of stealing a motorcar were shot and killed during a shootout with security officers in Fern Gully in Ocho Rios, St Ann on Wednesday night.
The deceased men are still unidentified at this time.
Reports are that at about 10:15 pm, the police responded to a call alerting them of a stolen Toyota Probox motorcar with men travelling aboard. The motorcar was later intercepted in Fern Gully by a team of security officers, who were pursuing the alleged thieves.
A shootout reportedly ensued between men in the stolen vehicle and the security officers. Some of the alleged thieves managed to escape.
When the trade of bullets subsided, two of the accused carjackers were seen suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The police are carrying out investigations to locate the men who reportedly escaped.
It was the latest carjacking incident across the island involving the death of at least one alleged perpetrator.
On Tuesday night, a female constable shot and killed a man who allegedly attacked her with a rifle at the intersection of Old Hope Road and Caledonia Avenue in St Andrew in an attempt to steal her car.
Last month, an accused car thief died after crashing the motor vehicle he allegedly stole in a garbage truck along Spanish Town Road in Kingston.
